ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 9-ranked University of Michigan women's gymnastics team topped No. 14 Clemson 197.225-196.975 on Friday evening (March 6) at Crisler Center.
Graduate student Carly Bauman scored two 9.950s to earn the uneven bars and floor exercise titles, while Jahzara Ranger won her third balance beam title of the season, tying her career-best 9.950, and Reyna Guggino earned a 9.850 to capture the vault title.
Michigan (10-3) recorded eight scores of 9.900 or better en route to its victory over the Tigers (4-5). Bauman led the Wolverines with a pair of 9.950s, while Ranger scored a 9.950 and Sophia Diaz a 9.925 on floor. Senior Lily Clapper notched a career-best 9.900 on the uneven bars, while Quincy Walters earned a 9.900 on beam and floor, and Kayli Boozer notched a 9.900 on the beam.
The meet remained close from the start, as it was tied at 98.375 at the halfway point and the Wolverines led by a narrow score of 147.825-147.800 before they secured the win in the final rotation.
U-M was led by Guggino in the first rotation on vault with a 9.850, while Diaz and Ranger closed out the rotation with matching 9.825s. Clemson had a solid rotation on the uneven bars, including a team-best 9.925 to carry a 49.300-49.075 lead into the second rotation.
Clapper put together her career-best outing in the second spot on uneven bars, while Bauman had a near-perfect routine with a 9.950. Sophomore Audrey Sanger closed out the rotation with a career-best 9.825 as the two teams finished the rotation tied at 98.375 at the halfway point of the meet.
On beam, Walters earned a 9.900 with a stuck landing in the second spot and Ava Jordan returned to the lineup to score a 9.875. Ranger and Boozer closed out the rotation with a 9.950 and a 9.900, respectively, as Michigan went into the final rotation with a 147.825-147.800 lead.
Sophomore Peyton Davis led off the floor rotation with a 9.875 to set up three straight scores of 9.900 or higher, with Diaz recording a 9.925 and Bauman a 9.950 for the event title. Walters scored a 9.900 in the five spot to lock in the Wolverine victory.
Michigan will celebrate its senior class next Friday (March 13) when it welcomes No. 1 Oklahoma to Crisler Center for a 6:45 p.m. meet that will be streamed live on B1G+.
