PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- The University of Michigan men's track and field team closed out the Penn Relays on Saturday (April 25) at Franklin Field in record-setting fashion, winning the 4x800-meter relay while setting the program and meet record.
John O'Reilly led off the relay, placing the Wolverines in fourth with a 1:50.11 split, before Brendan Herger moved Michigan into third with a 1:46.80 leg. Camden Law (1:46.23) pushed the squad into second, and Trent McFarland closed with the fastest final-leg split to secure the win in 7:09.24.
The time marks the second straight year the Maize and Blue have set the program record in the 4x800-meter relay and breaks the Penn Relays meet record of 7:11.17 set by Penn State in 1985. The mark ranks No. 2 all-time in NCAA history and is just 0.30 seconds shy of the collegiate record.
Aiden Sullivan, Jack Bidwell, Nathan Lopez and Jonathan Miles placed seventh in the 4xMile relay with a time of 16:51.71, while Josh Huisman finished seventh in the shot put with a mark of 17.87m (58-7.5).
U-M will close out its regular-season road slate at the Duke Twilight in Durham, N.C., on May 3.
