
Bauman Earns Second Straight WGCA Regional Gymnast of the Year Award

PITTSBURGH, Pa. -- University of Michigan women's gymnastics graduate student Carly Bauman was named the Women's Collegiate Gymnastics Association Northeast Regional Gymnast of the Year on Wednesday (April 8), the organization announced.
Bauman became the 10th Michigan gymnast to be named Regional Gymnast of the Year in 2025 and is the seventh to earn the award at least twice. Dating back to 2017, a Wolverine has won the award.
Bauman advanced to the NCAA Individual Championships on balance beam after leading the Northeast Region on both uneven bars and floor exercise, while ranking fourth on the beam. Bauman carries National Qualifying Scores of 9.900 on uneven bars, 9.935 on floor and 9.890 on the beam into the NCAA postseason, scoring a career-high 9.975 on the floor. The West Des Moines, Iowa, native also has career-best 9.975s on uneven bars and beam and has season highs of 9.950 and 9.925, respectively.
Bauman is one of seven AAI Award finalists and was named the Big Ten Specialist of the Year, ranking third on the floor, eighth on the uneven bars and 11th on the beam in the Big Ten, while ranking 11th nationally on the floor. She notched her third first-team All-Big Ten nod and her fourth conference honor after being named to the second team in 2023. Most recently, Bauman earned Big Ten All-Championship Team honors on floor after tying for second on the floor with a 9.950. She earned Big Ten Specialist of the Week honors on two occasions this season, bringing her career total to five. Bauman also won 10 individual event titles and posted 18 scores of 9.900 or better in her final season. She helped make Michigan history early in the season when the Wolverines broke the program beam record with a score of 49.650, which included a 9.925 from Bauman in the anchor position.
Outside of the gym, Bauman is an outstanding student, having eaerned earned her degree in biology, health and science and a Master of Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology in 2025. She is currently pursuing her Master of Management. This year, Bauman earned Academic All-Big Ten honors for the fourth time in her career. She is also part of a group of students who visit children at C.S. Mott Children's Hospital and is part of Michigan Athletes Towards Careers in Healthcare.
