
Isaac Punches Ticket to NCAA Championships, Six Wolverines Advance to Quarterfinals

LEXINGTON, Ky. -- The University of Michigan men's track and field team opened the NCAA East First Round on Wednesday (May 27) at the UK Outdoor Track and Field Complex, with one Wolverine qualifying for the NCAA Championships and six advancing to the quarterfinals.
Freshman Quincy Isaac only needed one jump to make his way to the NCAA Outdoor Championships, finishing fifth in the long jump with a mark of 7.89 meters (25 feet, 10.75 inches) to tie his personal best. He posted the mark on his first attempt and passed his final two.
Three Wolverines will vie for an NCAA Outdoor Championships berth in the 1,500-meter run after advancing to Friday's quarterfinals. Brendan Herger finished first overall (3:42.86), Trent McFarland finished ninth (3:43.66) and Riley Flemington finished 19th (3:44.37), with Herger and McFarland winning their heats to advance and Flemington qualifying on time. Henry Dixon also competed, finishing 29th with a time of 3:48.74.
John O'Reilly led a trio of Wolverines that qualified for the quarterfinals in the 800-meter run, finishing fifth overall with a time of 1:46.84, while Miles Brown finished 17th (1:47.38) and Camden Law finished 21st (1:47.58). All three finished second in their heats to automatically advance to the quarterfinals.
In the 110-meter hurdles, Benny Diaz ran 14.29 seconds to finish 41st. Jake Machiniak placed 32nd with a time of 20.88 in the 200-meter dash.
Josh Huisman placed 20th in the shot put with a mark of 18.30m (60-0.5), while Jake Wall fouled on all three of his attempts in the long jump.
The Maize and Blue will close out the NCAA East First Round on Friday (May 29) at the UK Outdoor Track and Field Complex, with the discus throw at 1 p.m. kicking off the action.
