ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Rising sophomore Jack Ivankovic of the University of Michigan ice hockey team has been named to Hockey Canada's National Team for the 2026 IIHF Men's World Championship, it was announced Friday (May 8).
The World Championship will be held May 15-31 in Zurich and Fribourg, Switzerland. The 16 teams, split into Groups A and B, will play a round-robin format in the preliminary round, with the top four teams from each group advancing to the quarterfinals. Canada will be in Group B and will take on Sweden in the first game of the tournament on Friday, May 15.
Before the start of the tournament, Canada's National Team will practice at Accor Arena in Paris, France, from May 8-11 and will take on France and Hungary in pre-tournament action.
A finalist for the Mike Richter Award, Ivankovic opened his career by backstopping Michigan to the best defensive start in program history, going 7-0 -- the first Wolverine goaltender to do so since Paul Fricker in 1979. He posted the second-most wins in the nation with 25, posting a 25-8-1 record with a .921 save percentage and a 2.15 goals-against average.
This is the seventh time Ivankovic has been named to a national team. He has represented Canada at the 2023 World U17 Hockey Challenge, 2024 Hlinka Gretzy Cup, 2024 U18 World Championship, 2025 World Junior Championship, 2025 U18 World Championship and the 2026 World Junior Championship. A native of Mississauga, Ontario, Ivankovic medaled in six of those tournaments, earning four golds and one bronze.
Fifty-two Wolverines have played in the World Championship, including 41 for the United States, 10 for Canada and one for Austria. Michigan players have brought home 21 medals (eight gold, three silver and 10 bronze).
