
Puri Named to CSC Academic All-America Second Team

GREENWOOD, Ind. -- Junior Akshay Puri of the University of Michigan men's gymnastics team was named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-America second team, the organization announced on Wednesday (July 8).
Puri is the third Wolverine in program history to earn the honor, joining Justin Toman (2002) and Paul Juda (2022, 2024), and marks his first career Academic All-America citation.
Puri is the sixth Wolverine to earn Academic All-America honors this academic year, joining Allison Jacobs (volleyball), Brady Kendall (women's swimming and diving), Letitia Sim (women's swimming and diving), Piper Charney (women's tennis) and Mert Oral (men's tennis).
A two-time Academic All-Big Ten and Distinguished Scholar honoree, Puri helped lead the Wolverines to a third-place finish at the NCAA Championships after coming in fourth on the still rings and earning his first career All-America citation. The junior took home silver on the still rings at the Big Ten Championships, helping earn the program's sixth straight title win to be named to the All-Big Ten second team.
A Chicago, Ill., native, he was a CGA Regular Season All-American, ranking fourth on the still rings with an average score of 13.994, and earned five still rings event titles during the regular season. Puri is pursuing an undergraduate degree in biomedical engineering.
