(Horace Mann) Installed as Michigan Legend: September 7, 2013 ? 1940 Heisman Trophy winner who is regarded as one of the greatest athletes in school history. ? Two-time All-American (1939-40) and three-time All-Big Ten Conference (1938-40) honoree. ? Rushed for 2,134 yards, scored 33 touchdowns and threw 16 touchdown passes during his three seasons with the Maize and Blue. ? Added 33 PATs and booted two field goals in addition to his 33 TDs for 237 career points. ? Served a four-year stint as a pilot during World War II, in which he won a Silver Star and the Purple Heart. ? Married actress Elyse Knox and had three children: Kristin, Kelly and Mark, who played football at UCLA and became an actor (NCIS). ? Played for the Los Angeles Rams in 1946 and 1947. ? Became one of the nation's top sports broadcasters and directors, reporting live on major sporting events from the Olympics to the Rose Bowl. ? Born: September 28, 1919; Died: March 15, 1990 (age 70) Harmon Recognized as Michigan Legend; Gardner to Wear No. 98 Before the Sept. 7 night game against Notre Dame, U-M officially recognized 1940 Heisman Trophy winner Tom Harmon as a Michigan Football Legend, and quarterback Devin Gardner became the first Wolverine in 73 years to don the No. 98 jersey. Bentley Historical Library Exhibit: Harmon of Michigan The "Harmon of Michigan" exhibit at the Bentley Library focuses on the life and career of the U-M football legend.
