U-M football great DESMOND HOWARD, the 1991 Heisman Trophy winner, was honored at the Michigan-Notre Dame "Under the Lights" game on Sept. 10, 2011, in recognition of his recent induction into the College Football Hall of Fame. In a pregame ceremony, Howard was announced as the inaugural honoree in a new "Michigan Football Legends" program that will recognize the school's all-time gridiron greats. A 1991 consensus All-American, Howard became the first receiver in history to lead the Big Ten Conference in scoring, and he set or tied five NCAA records and 12 single-season Michigan records during his senior year. He is currently an analyst on ESPN College Football GameDay, which visited Ann Arbor for the Notre Dame game.
