Draft History
• U-M has had at least one player selected in 87 consecutive NFL Player Selection Meetings (drafts); 1938 to present.
• Since the inaugural NFL draft in 1938, a total of 421 Michigan players have been selected.
• The Wolverines are seventh all-time with 56 first-round NFL draft picks, including No. 1 picks Tom Harmon (1941) and Jake Long (2008).
• U-M has had multiple first-round NFL draft picks on 11 different occasions; most recent was 2025 when Mason Graham (Cleveland Browns, 5th pick), Colston Loveland (Chicago Bears, 10th pick) and Kenneth Grant (Miami Dolphins, 13th pick) were all selected in the first round.
• The Wolverines had three players chosen in the first round of the NFL Draft on three occasions: 1995 (Tyrone Wheatley, Ty Law, Trezelle Jenkins), 2001 (David Terrell, Steve Hutchinson, Jeff Backus) and 2025 (Mason Graham, Colston Loveland, Kenneth Grant).
• Michigan has had three players selected No. 1 in professional football league drafts. Tom Harmon was the first overall pick of the Chicago Bears in the 1941 NFL Draft, end Elmer Madar was the first selection of the Miami Seahawks in the 1947 All-American Football Conference draft and Jake Long was the No. 1 pick of the Miami Dolphins in the 2008 NFL Draft.
• U-M has had 13 players taken in the first five picks of the draft (AAFC, AFL and NFL drafts).
• Michigan had a school-record 13 players selected in the 2024 NFL Draft, topping the previous mark of 11 players chosen in the 2017 Draft.
• Michigan has had double-digit players selected in five drafts: 10 players in 1972, '74, 2020; 11 players in 2017; 13 players in 2024.
• A total of 67 Wolverines were drafted during Jim Harbaugh's coaching tenure, including 10 first-round picks and 32 players chosen in the first three rounds.
• A total of 61 U-M players were drafted during Lloyd Carr's tenure, including 10 first-round picks and 12 second-round choices (8 third, 8 fourth, 5 fifth, 8 sixth, 10 seventh).
• Michigan players were selected with five of the first 43 picks in the 2001 NFL Draft, including a school-record-tying three first-round selections.
• Michigan players were selected with three of the first 13 picks in the 2025 NFL Draft, including a school-record-tying three first-round selections.

1: The first U-M player ever selected in the NFL Draft was end Matt Patanelli. He was drafted in the ninth round of the 1937 NFL Draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers (85th overall pick).
