Safety at Yost Ice Arena

All bags (including purses and fanny packs) are prohibited from being carried into Yost Ice Arena. Fans are encouraged to bring ONLY necessary items to games at Yost Ice Arena. All subjects and items are subject to search. Please email guestservices@umich.edu with specific questions.
Exceptions for guests with medical or childcare needs (e.g., medical prescriptions, diapers for a baby, etc.) will be addressed individually at the entrances. Guests with medical or childcare needs may expedite their entry at the entrances by requesting approval of their necessary item(s) ahead of time using our Special Permission Form. Requests will be reviewed and approved or denied by 3 p.m. the day before each home game. Approved items will be searched and tagged at the solutions table at each gate on game day.

Based on the nature of a specific event or emergency, directions to guests and staff will be communicated via public address announcements and video scoreboard messages. Guests are requested to listen to announcements and remain seated until instructed otherwise.
Fire: If you discover a fire or smell smoke, please notify the nearest Event Team Member or a police officer immediately. Event Team Members are stationed throughout the arena concourse. If you cannot locate one right away, call 911.
Building Emergency: In the event of a serious incident during the game, Event Team Members and law enforcement personnel may direct that actions be taken to protect all of our guests. Please remain calm and listen to all instructions carefully. If you are asked to evacuate the building, please do not run or panic and follow the instructions of Event Team Members.

In order to ensure a safe environment for all those attending events at the University of Michigan, we want to remind you about two key provisions of the University of Michigan Regents Ordinance:
- No person shall throw, project or drop any projectile or object that could cause injury, damage or interference in the spectator or playing area.
- Unauthorized entry onto the playing surface before, during or after the event is prohibited.
Violation of these articles of the University ordinance, or any other University policies or rules, will be subject to all penalties and fines permitted under those policies, rules, ordinances and any other applicable law.

To ensure a safe and comfortable environment at Yost Ice Arena, the following items are prohibited from being brought into the arenas for intercollegiate athletic contests:
- All bags (including purses, clear bags, backpacks, fanny packs)
- All bottles (including all types of water bottles — glass, plastic, aluminum)
- Alcoholic beverages or illegal substances
- Aerosol and spray cans
- Animals (except service animals for persons with a disability)
- Apparel or signage displaying profane or abusive language (handheld posters & signs without profane or abusive language, poles, or sticks must not block another guest’s view nor be affixed to any structure or part of the venue)
- Cameras with a lens longer than 6 inches
- Containers of any kind (including coolers, cups, bottles, cans, flasks)
- Flags with flagpoles
- Food of any kind
- Noisemakers (including but not limited to whistles, air horns, boom boxes, bull horns, kazoos, sirens, thunder sticks, vuvuzelas, etc.)
- Seat cushions with backs/arms
- Strollers and infant car seats
- Tobacco (including lighted smoking devices, electronic nicotine delivery systems, and non-combustible tobacco products)
- Umbrellas — large (must be small compact only and fit securely under the seat)
- Video camera, tripods and selfie sticks
- Weapons
Michigan reserves the right to prohibit the carrying of any other item into the arena. Decisions on which items to prohibit will be made contingent upon security briefings by law enforcement agencies. Exceptions for medical or personal care reasons (e.g., diapers for a baby, medical prescriptions, etc.) will be addressed individually at the entrances. Michigan reserves the right to search or inspect such items and persons carrying them are encouraged to carry them into the arena in a clear plastic bag.
