- Title:
- Wide Receivers Coach
Ron Bellamy is in his fifth season as a member of the University of Michigan staff and his fourth season coaching the wide receivers in 2025 after spending his first year on staff (2021) with the safeties. Bellamy joined the staff after 11 years as one of the most successful high school coaches in the state of Michigan.
Â
A former Wolverine pass-catcher himself, Bellamy has led the wide receiver room at Michigan to become a reliable, successful unit. He has coached two wide receivers to All-Big Ten status in 2021 (Ronnie Bell, third team) and 2023 (Roman Wilson, second team) with Wilson finishing top-10 nationally in receiving touchdowns (12). Those 12 touchdown catches were the most by a Wolverine since 2007 and came via U-M's top-15 scoring offense (35.9 points per game).
Â
Semaj Morgan (27) and Tyler Morris (23) paced the group in receptions and were among the four different wide receivers to catch touchdowns in 2024. Wilson (48 catches, 789 yards) and Cornelius Johnson (47 catches, 604 yards) led the receiver corps in 2023, with Morgan (22 catches, 204 yards, two touchdowns) making an impact as a true freshman. Bell (62 catches, 889 yards) was the leader in 2022 as three receivers caught at least four touchdowns each (Johnson six, Bell and Wilson, four each). U-M posted the third-highest scoring total in program history and averaged 40.4 points per game.
During the 2021 season, Bellamy helped oversee a secondary that ranked top-30 in pass defense, pass efficiency allowed, and total defense. Defensive back Daxton Hill was a first-team All-Big Ten honoree while Brad Hawkins picked up third-team honors. U-M saw 20 different players contribute at least one pass breakup during the 2021 season, the most in the past 25 seasons. Overall, 57 passes were broken up including eight interceptions.
Bellamy completed his 11th year as the head football coach at West Bloomfield High School in 2020, capturing the Division 1 state championship with a 41-0 victory over Davison at Ford Field. Bellamy helped the Lakers program post an 11-1 record and secure their first state title.
He led the Lakers to the playoffs in each of the past seven years, including a trip to the Division 1 state finals in 2017 and back-to-back appearances in the regional finals in 2018 and 2019. Bellamy compiled a 76-41 record during his 11 seasons at the helm of the Lakers and led the program into the playoffs during his final seven seasons. Before his arrival, the school only qualified for the playoffs twice.
Â
Bellamy was instrumental in helping his players at West Bloomfield achieve their goal of playing collegiate football, helping 165 players earn scholarships, including 50 at the FBS level.
As a student-athlete at Michigan, Bellamy started 25 of the 36 games that he played at wide receiver during his career. He hauled in 67 receptions for 888 yards and nine touchdowns during his career, including 46 catches for 530 yards and five TDs as a senior.
He earned his degree in sport management and communications from Michigan in 2003. After graduating, Bellamy signed with the Miami Dolphins as an undrafted free agent. He was on the Dolphins practice squad in 2003 and 2004 and spent stints with the Baltimore Ravens (2005) and Detroit Lions (2007-08). Bellamy went on to receive a master’s degree in education from Wayne State in 2011.
A New Orleans, Louisiana, native, Bellamy attended Archbishop Shaw High School. He was a four-year honor roll student that competed in football and track, earning all-district, all-metro, all-state and All-American accolades in both sports.
Bellamy and his wife, Aamira, have two children.
