Coach Chris Partridge on Jordan Anthony
"Jordan is a phenomenal athlete, and he actually played running back. He was very fast and explosive, and this year had a heck of a season at linebacker. He makes plays all over the field and can play both inside and outside. He's a phenomenal baseball player as well and just an all-around great athlete. He will add versatility to the linebacker core, and we are really excited to have him.
"It is really cool that (Cesar and Jordan) are going to be playing together. Their IMG coaches had mentioned that they are the team's two biggest leaders on offense and defense, so it's truly a cool thing. Those guys get along really well and even though they were together two years at IMG, it's a cool thing to keep that connection."
Coach Don Brown on Jordan Anthony
"Jordan is one of those guys who has tremendous position flexibility. He is extremely sudden and will explode at the point of contact. He is a guy who can play against spread offenses and can play in space. He is a high-motor athlete and chases the ball with great passion. In a word, he is relentless."
In the Words of the Anthony Family
"In elementary and middle school, Jordan was often described as a 'gentle giant.' As parents, we were always proud when others would describe him in this way because it meant that he was recognized for being considerate and kind hearted, despite his stature and competitive nature. Even his younger brothers admire his demeanor, as Jordan is still recognized as a 'great kid.'
"Jordan has excelled athletically from the age of five, playing basketball, baseball, football and soccer competitively. As he matured, he realized that basketball and soccer were not his forte and chose to pursue his passion of competing as a two-sport athlete by focusing on baseball and football. He has continued to play both sports throughout middle and high school and has garnered a tremendous amount of success along the way. He was a starting offensive lineman for his 2008 Pop Warner championship team, which went on to win consecutive state titles. Additionally, he pitched 23 out of 25 scoreless innings in the 2007 Cal Ripken MD State baseball tournament.
"In his junior year of high school, Jordan made a tremendous sacrifice for his future in deciding to attend the IMG Academy, which is more than 900 miles away from home. Being this far away from home would be a difficult decision for anyone, much less a teenager in high school dependent on a support system of friends and family. Attending IMG also meant separating from his connection to Emory United Methodist Church, where he volunteered with the Homeless Ministry and helped to prepare and serve meals to the homeless within the church community in Washington D.C. However, with his strong faith and motivation, he was able to weigh the potential of such a sacrifice and almost immediately understood the importance of taking the journey to achieving his destiny.
"When it comes to football, he has been commended time and time again by each coach he's played under for having a high IQ for the game, in addition to tremendous athletic ability. He prides himself on having an aptitude for the game from all the years spent in the basement of our home watching our favorite football teams on the weekends with his father. This is where Jordan studied and learned the old 'smash-mouth' style of football.
"He finished up his high school career on a strong note by helping his IMG teammates see their way to an undefeated season. Now the time has come to put forth his greatest effort to help return the greatest program in collegiate football history back to glory. He is proud to be a Michigan Wolverine!"
