Former Wolverine guard Jaaron Simmons begins his sixth season with the University of Michigan's basketball program. After spending a year as the program's graduate manager, Simmons was elevated to the program's video analyst in 2020 -- a position he has held for the past five seasons.
Simmons' responsibilities include analyzing film, providing analytics to prepare scouting reports and assist in game planning, helping the coaching staff with on-campus recruiting events and co-supervising the student managerial program. During the summer, he assists in coordinating coaching staff recruiting schedules and helps in directing the Michigan Basketball summer camps.
Simmons played one season (2017-18) for the Wolverines following his graduate transfer from Ohio University. He was the first ever graduate transfer at Michigan. During his time in Ann Arbor, Simmons was a valuable veteran guard coming off the bench during U-M's run to its second straight Big Ten Tournament title, program record 33 wins and magical run to the Final Four and national title game.
During the NCAA run, Simmons made a clutch three-pointer from the corner to help the Wolverines start a scoring run that would lead the Wolverines to a victory over Loyola Chicago and send the Maize and Blue to the national title game for the second time in six years. He played in 33 games off the bench, averaging 8.0 minutes per game and dishing out 35 assists.
Upon graduation from Michigan, Simmons played one season of professional basketball with Union Neuchâtel of the Swiss Basketball League. He played in 13 games, averaging 8.5 points and 3.4 assists.
Prior to his transfer to Michigan, Simmons played at Ohio for two seasons (2015-17) where he led the Bobcats with 15.9 points and 6.5 assists per game in his last season in Athens, collecting All-MAC first team honors and MAC All-Tournament accolades.
The Dayton, Ohio, native helped Ohio to its second straight 20-win season and a No. 2 seed in the MAC Tournament. As a junior, Simmons averaged 15.5 points per game, recording seven double-doubles and 26 double-figure scoring outputs, on his way to a second team All-MAC honor. He scored a career-high 31 points against Buffalo and helped the Bobcats advance to the semifinals of the College Basketball Invitational.
Simmons started his collegiate career at Houston, playing in 32 games as a freshman for the Cougars. He then transferred to Ohio and sat out the 2014-15 season due to NCAA transfer guidelines.
Simmons graduated from Ohio with a bachelor's degree for specialized studies in 2017. In 2021, he completed work for his master's degree for social work at U-M. Simmons and his girlfriend, Ronequa (Mallory) have one daughter together, Romera.
