Ann Arbor native Patrick Wilkes-Krier finished his third season as an assistant coach with the University of Michigan men's golf program following a successful 12-year collegiate and professional career.
In his three seasons with the Wolverines, Wilkes-Krier helped U-M to 12 top-5 finishes with two team titles -- 2016 Dayton Flyer Invitational and 2017 Desert Mountain Intercollegiate. Assisting U-M head coach Chris Whitten, the Wolverines earned a team bid to the 2017 Washington Regional and an individual bid (Kyle Mueller) to the 2018 Columbus Regional, which he won to advance to the NCAA Finals.
During an eight-year professional career, Wilkes-Krier competed primarily on the National Golf Association Tour (Hooters Tour) as well as playing in several events on the Web.com Tour and other mini-tours throughout the country. In 2011, he was named the NGA Hooters Tour Most Improved Player.
Following his professional career, he became an instructor in 2015 at the Kendall Academy at Miles of Golf outside of Ann Arbor, Mich. He serves as the director/instructor of the elite junior program, where he teaches and mentors middle- and high-school golfers.
Born and raised in Ann Arbor, Wilkes-Krier played locally at Huron High School, earning All-State Super Team honors as a senior (2003) and won the Michigan Junior Amateur Match Play Championship before moving on to the collegiate ranks.
A four-year varsity letterwinner and starter at Ball State (2003-06), he was a two-time captain as a junior and senior. A two-time All-Mid-American Conference (MAC) selection, he holds the Ball State record for the lowest 54-hole score as well as the First Energy Intercollegiate Tournament record with his 15-under par 201 total winning medalist honors at the famed Firestone Golf Club. Wilkes-Krier continues to rank third in school history with a 74.01 career scoring average.
Off the course at Ball State, he was twice named to the prestigious Golf Coaches Association All-America Scholar team and was a two-time Academic All-MAC first team selection. He earned Ball State's Earl Yestingsmeier Student-Athlete Award in 2006 as a graduating senior who excels in the areas of academics, athletics and community involvement. In addition, he was honored with the MAC's President's Award, recognizing a graduating senior student-athlete who achieved a 3.5 minimum accumulative grade-point average.
Before turning professional, he won the 2006 GAM Championship at the Dearborn Country Club and was the runner-up at the 2005 Michigan Amateur Championship at the Muskegon Country Club. In 2016, he joined current Wolverine Kyle Mueller in qualifying for the U.S. Open at Oakmont Country Club.
He and his wife, Whitney, have two daughters, Azalea and Muse.
