Amanda Eccleston joins the Michigan staff working under head cross country coach and associate track and field coach Mike McGuire, with whom she has worked since she spent her fifth season of NCAA eligibility at Michigan in 2013. Eccleston runs professionally for Brooks.
Recent results include second place in the Sir Walter Miller Mile (2015; Mile), a win at the BU Valentine Invitational (2016; Mile) and third-place finishes at the US Indoor Championships (2016; 1,500 meters) and Millrose Games (2016; Mile) before she placed fourth at the U.S. Olympic Trials (2016), narrowly missing a bid to Rio.
She studied biology and biochemistry at Hillsdale College, graduating magna cum laude with honors in biology, before her transfer to U-M in 2012, where she earned her Master's Degree in Public Health and Epidemiology.
As a collegiate athlete, she was a six-time NCAA Division II All-American and three-time NCAA Division II National Champion, earning her titles in the 800 and 1,500-meter races as well as the mile (2012). She was recognized as the USTFCCCA Division II National Female Track Athlete of the Year, Midwest Regional Female Track Athlete of the Year and Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Female Track Athlete of the Meet in 2012. She added another national championship as a Wolverine, anchoring the Distance Medley Relay team to a 2013 title with a 4:32 split, and was an All-American during the outdoor season at 1,500 meters.
Eccleston collected two Big Ten titles individually (indoor mile; outdoor 1,500-meter run) and was the runner-up once as well (indoor 3,000-meter run). During cross country season, she earned three varsity letters, qualifying once for the Division II NCAA Championship (2010), where she finished 19th to earn All-America honors (2011). Eccleston was a Midwest Regional champion (2011) and first-team All-GLIAC as well.
