Justine Raterman enters her second season as an assistant coach with Michigan women's basketball in 2025-26. Raterman joins the Wolverines after spending the five seasons at Marquette (2019-24), serving as an assistant coach and as associate head coach in her final season.

With just four returners, five freshmen and three transfers, Michigan did not miss a beat in 2024-25 en route to winning 23 games and reaching the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Olivia Olson and Syla Swords became the first freshman teammates in Big Ten history to each score 500 points in the same season, with Olson setting a new freshman program record with 553 points. Fellow freshman Mila Holloway set a new Michigan assists record for a freshman, handing out 148 assists on the season. Olson was named the Big Ten Co-Freshman of the Year, with her and Swords each earning a spot on the all-freshman team and the Big Ten second team. Michigan's 23 wins is tied for the third-most in program history, with the Wolverines making the semifinals of the Big Ten Tournament for the second straight season.

Raterman made the move with former Michigan assistant Megan Duffy to Marquette in 2019 after a pair of seasons at Miami (Ohio). Raterman was an assistant coach for her first four seasons in Milwaukee and was promoted to associate head coach prior to the 2023-24 season while also serving as the recruiting coordinator.

During her time at Marquette, the Golden Eagles made three NCAA Tournament appearances and one WNIT appearance over five seasons. Marquette won 110 games across the five seasons, reaching the 20-win plateau four times.

Marquette made history during the 2023-24 season, starting a program-best 12-0 with an undefeated non-conference season. MU earned an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament with 23 wins and finished tied for third at 11-7 in the BIG EAST with St. John's and Villanova, while also capturing the title at the Fort Myers Tip-Off over Thanksgiving.

Raterman was instrumental in the development of Liza Karlen, who earned unanimous All-BIG EAST first-time honors. Karlen's scoring average jumped by more than six points from her junior to senior seasons, as she went for 17.7 points and 7.9 rebounds per game during her final season at Marquette. Raterman helped develop multiple players at Marquette, most notably Lauren Van Kleunen (2022 all-conference first team), Chloe Marotta (2023 all-conference first team) and Camryn Taylor, in addition to Karlen (2024 all-conference first team).

Before coming to Marquette, Raterman spent two seasons (2017-19) at Miami (Ohio) as the director of video operations and then an assistant coach. She was on the sidelines as Miami posted back-to-back 20-win seasons for the first time since the 1980s, earning WNIT berths in each season. The Redhawks reached the MAC Tournament semifinals in both seasons, going 44-20 during 2017-19 for the winningest record in the MAC. In her lone season as an assistant coach for Miami (2018-19), Raterman helped three players earn All-MAC honors. With the RedHawks, her responsibilities included player development, recruiting, scouting and serving as a liaison with academic services.

As Director of Video Operations for Miami Raterman was responsible for all video-related tasks including practice, game, scout and special event videos. In addition to managing film and video tasks, she assisted with in-office recruiting, helped organize special event games including Goals for Life, Love.Honor.Care, Alumnae Weekend, and Family STEM Night. She also helped with social media and served as the marketing and ticketing liaison.

A four-year letterwinner at Dayton, Raterman graduated in 2012 after leading the Flyers to three NCAA Tournament berths and one WNIT appearance. She is fifth all-time in both career points (1,832) and rebounds (915). Raterman was a four-time All-Atlantic 10 selection, the 2009 Rookie of the Year and the 2012 A-10 Tournament Most Outstanding Performer. She was named a Senior CLASS First-Team All-American in 2012 for her excellence on the court, in the classroom and in the community.

Raterman graduated from Dayton in 2012 as a double major, earning bachelor's degrees in mathematics and in science and education and allied studies. In the winter of 2019, she was inducted into the University of Dayton Athletics Hall of Fame.

Before arriving at Miami, Raterman spent the previous three years as an operations research analyst at Booz Allen Hamilton where she worked at the Air Force Research Laboratory as part of the modeling, simulation and analysis team.
