Nellie Ruedig completed her third season as the graduate assistant coach at the University of Michigan. In 2011, she received her bachelor's degree from U-M, double-majoring in economics and philosophy and is currently pursuing a master's in Applied Economics.
Ruedig is a valuable member of the coaching staff. She helped guide the Wolverines to the program's first Big Ten team title since 2004 in her first season in 2012, along with a 2V8 national title and a runner-up team finish at the NCAA championships. She was charged with coaching Michigan's fourth varsity eight boat to wins over both Iowa and Louisville's 2V8 crews.
Ruedig began her rowing career in the Michigan novice program and received a varsity letter in her last two years. She was the stroke seat of the second varsity eight for the past two seasons. The boat captured a runner-up finish at the Big Ten Championships in 2010 and later that season placed sixth at the NCAA Championships. Before joining the University of Michigan as a rower, Ruedig spent four years as a coxswain at St. Paul's School in Concord, N.H.
The Concord, N.H., native earned the U-M Athletic Academic Achievement Award all four years, earning Academic All-Big Ten during her junior year. In 2010, she received the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award.
