Tom Anagnost, who boasts five years of Division I head coaching experience, joined the Michigan women's soccer coaching staff in January 2015 as a volunteer assistant coach.
Most recently, Anagnost was at the helm of the women's soccer program at Miami from 2011-13. He led the Hurricanes to a combined 19-15-5 record and two straight NCAA Tournaments, including the program's first trip to the NCAA second round. Under his direction, Miami qualified for the ACC Tournament for the first time in five years and set several school records, including fewest goals against in a season (19) and shutouts in a season (11). Several of his players earned conference and national awards, including All-ACC Freshman team, and also ranked among the top in the conference in individual statistical categories. Anagnost strived to develop successful student-athletes on and off the field, as his teams boasted the top team GPA in the ACC during his tenure.
Prior to taking over at Miami, Anagnost spent three successful seasons as the head coach of Central Michigan's women's program, compiling an overall record of 45-12-7. He was twice named the MAC Coach of the Year (2008 and 2009) and led the Chips to two consecutive NCAA Tournament berths. Anagnost was an assistant coach with the program in 2007 when it finished 10th in the MAC standings, and upon taking over as head coach, helped CMU become the first team in MAC history to win two consecutive regular season and tournament titles in 2008 and 2009. During his time with Central Michigan, he mentored two MAC Defensive Players of the Year and one MAC Freshman of the Year.
Before making the jump to the Division I coaching ranks, Anagnost spent eight years coaching at the high school level, including stints with the Bay City John Glenn girl's program (1999-2003), Heritage boy's team (2000-03) and Flint Powers Catholic girl's program (2003-07).
As a player, Anagnost was a three-time NCAA Division III All-American at Kalamazoo College (1992-95). He graduated with a bachelor's degree in political science in 1995 and later went on to earn a teaching certificate from Saginaw Valley State University in 2003. In 2011, he was inducted into the Kalamazoo College Sports Hall of Fame for his contributions over his outstanding four-year career.
Upon graduation from Kalamazoo, Anagnost played professionally for the Chicago Power of the National Professional Soccer League in 1995 and for the Michigan Bucks of the United States Indoor Soccer League in 1996.
