- Volunteer Assistant Coach
Ali Bastianelli joins the Michigan volleyball staff as a volunteer assistant for the fall of 2021.
The Marysville, Mich., native was a key member of the University of Illinois national semifinal team in 2018 and left an impressive legacy both on the court and in the classroom.
During her career with the Fighting Illini, Bastianelli set the Illinois record for career blocks and block assists, and at the time of her graduation was second all-time in Big Ten history in career blocks. In addition, she was a Senior CLASS Award finalist and first team honoree, a two-time AVCA All-America third-team selection, a three-time All-Big Ten winner, and a CoSIDA Academic All-District second team member.
"We are extremely excited to add Ali to our Michigan Volleyball coaching staff," said Rosen. "She brings a wealth of experience from playing at the highest level of collegiate and international volleyball. Ali will join us as soon as her National Team events conclude. Her experience as an elite-level blocker will be a great addition to our program."
"I am thrilled to join the Michigan volleyball staff," said Bastianelli. "I've known Mark and Leisa since I was first being recruited in 2013 and have always admired their coaching style and how competitive the team is year after year. Every time we played Michigan (as an Illinois player) it was a battle and I feel honored to be in the gym with such a talented team and a top-notch coaching staff."
