- Volunteer Assistant Coach
University of Michigan head volleyball coach Mark Rosen announced the hiring of former UMKC standout Emily Lucas as the Wolverines' volunteer assistant coach on June 13, 2017.Â
"I'm really excited to have Emily joining our staff," said Rosen. "As a former full-time assistant at Northwood University, she brings a level of experience that is probably higher than any of our previous volunteer assistant coaches. I think her personality and her character are a great fit for our team, and we're excited to have her work with all aspects of our program."
Lucas comes to Ann Arbor by way of Northwood University in Midland, Michigan, where she served as an assistant for the 2016 season, coordinating the Timberwolves setters and offense while also assisting with scouting, recruiting, travel and additional responsibilities.
While in Midland, Lucas also worked with the Michigan Elite Volleyball Academy as the North Site director and club coach, managing 16 different club youth teams and scheduling practices and clinics.
Prior to moving to Michigan, she served as a graduate assistant at Arkansas Tech University for two seasons. During her tenure, the Golden Suns captured two regular-season titles and a conference championship and had 13 all-conference selections along with an NCAA Division II National Tournament appearance in 2014. Lucas also served a graduate assistant coach at William Woods University for one season, where she helped coach the American Conference Libero of the Year and an AVCA All-Region honorable mention.
A 2012 graduate of the University of Missouri-Kansas City, Lucas was a Summit League first team selection as a senior and finished her career ranked in the school's top 10 in attacks per set, kills per set, kills in a season and attack percentage while ranking fourth in career kills with 1,183.
