Ali Thomason will serve as a volunteer assistant coach for the 2016-17 season.
Thomason, the first University of Michigan water polo player to earn first team All-American honors, will finish her degree in neuroscience with a creative writing minor while assisting with the Wolverines team that is coming off a fourth place finish at the NCAA Championship and a CWPA Championship.
With plans to attend medical school in June of 2017, Thomason took the MCAT this past summer. A two-time team captain and single-season record holder with 94 goals, Thomason has a strong background in leadership, academics and elite water polo. She received the highest honor given by the CWPA in 2016 when she was named the Scholar Athlete of the Year. This came after she was a CoSIDA third team Academic All-American, Big Ten Distinguished Scholar, NSCA Strength and Conditioning All-American and CWPA Player of the Year as a senior.
Thomason finished her playing career ranked third in Michigan history with 209 goals and 210 steals and fourth with 307 points. She earned All-America recognition three times, was on the All-CWPA first team twice and was a two-time Academic All-Big Ten choice.
