Matt Adams

Adams hails from Fairport, New York, and graduated from Syracuse University where he double majored in Sport Analytics and Economics while also carrying two minors in Information Management & Technology and Sport Management. Matt largely attributes the Sport Analytics program for his skill sets and preparation for his role here at Michigan.
Adams’ specific areas of study have included sport competitive balance and competition structures, training optimization, team rating systems, athlete workload management, and social media analytics. Through these areas of focus, Adams contributed to research projects involving volleyball, basketball, baseball, football, and soccer, Australian Football, and golf. In addition, he also worked as an analytics intern with RSPCT Basketball Technologies from 2021 – 2023.
His strong analytical background, vast knowledge of computer languages, and visual analytics will significantly transcend across his role as Performance Analyst where he will be the primary analyst for performance and load management data for the Michigan Volleyball program.
During his time at Syracuse, Matt served as a practice player for the women’s volleyball team and competed on the men’s club volleyball team, holding the role as President during his last season. As a setter, Adams led the team to two ECVA DI – North Championships for Syracuse. He co-founded the Orange Roudnet Syracuse Spikeball club team and organized a local soccer league in the summers.
Prior to Syracuse, Adams was a two-sport athlete playing volleyball and baseball and played club volleyball for Pace Bootlegger VBC. Adams also has spent time as a volunteer for the Special Olympics Unified Basketball team in his hometown of Fairport, in addition to volunteering his time as a statistician for the Fairport basketball team and earning his Eagle Scout in 2018.
In his spare time, Adams enjoys graphic design, and playing volleyball, basketball, golf, roundnet, and skiing.
