Andrew Brewer was named General Manager and Chief of Staff of the University of Michigan ice hockey team in August 2026.
Brewer joins the Wolverines after spending the 2025-26 season as an assistant coach with the Anaheim Ducks and brings nearly two decades of experience across professional, international and collegiate hockey.
A native of Fredericton, New Brunswick, Brewer has spent the last 15 years in a variety of coaching and hockey operations roles, including nine seasons on NHL staffs and multiple roles in international, collegiate and professional hockey.
Before helping Anaheim advance to the second round of the 2026 Stanley Cup Playoffs, Brewer spent two seasons as video coach with the Florida Panthers. He previously served five seasons as an assistant coach with the Toronto Maple Leafs from 2015-20.
Brewer began his NHL coaching career with the Detroit Red Wings as assistant coach during the 2014-15 season before joining Toronto's staff the following year.
In addition to his NHL experience, Brewer has represented Hockey Canada at numerous international events, serving as video coach at the Olympic Winter Games, World Cup of Hockey and multiple IIHF World Championships and World Junior Championships. He contributed to several gold-medal performances, including the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, the 2016 World Cup of Hockey and the 2016 IIHF World Championship in Moscow.
Before entering the professional ranks, Brewer spent three seasons as video coach at the University of New Brunswick from 2008-11, helping the program capture Canadian Interuniversity Sport national championships in 2009 and 2011.
As Michigan's general manager and chief of staff, Brewer will oversee hockey operations, roster management and long-term program planning. He will work closely with Naurato and his staff in the areas of player personnel, recruiting and retention, player development, NHL relations, technology and long-term program strategy.
