Joe Donovan joins the program as a student assistant coach.Â
Donovan returns to the Wolverines after four seasons in the minor leagues to begin his coaching career.Â
In the minor leagues, Donovan made it as high as Triple-A playing two games for the Columbus Clippers as part of the Cleveland Guardians system. He also spent time in Single-A, High-A and Double-A. He complied 176 games with 112 hits, 15 home runs and a .653 OPS. He retired on July 29th, 2024 as a member of the Akron RubberDucks. Â
Donovan played for the Wolverines in college for three seasons from 2018-2020 and participated in the College World Series. In his freshman season, Donovan had a.250 batting average and appeared in 14 games with six starts at catcher. Donovan had a strong sophomore season where he was named to the All-Big Ten Third Team making 60 starts behind the plate and posting a .421 slugging percentage. He homered and scored twice in the College World Series Finals opener against Vanderbilt. In his final season with the team, Donovan started 14 of the 15 games behind the play before the season was canceled due to the global COVID-19 Pandemic. He had a .318 on-base percentage before the season ended and caught 46% of base stealers. In June of 2020, Donovan signed with the Guardians organization.
He returns to Ann Arbor to finish his degree in General Studies.Â
