Layne Phillips joined the University of Michigan Olympic Strength and Conditioning staff as a Strength and Conditioning Fellow in July of 2023. In February 2024, Phillips was promoted to Strength and Conditioning Coach and is currently responsible for the program design and implementation for men's and women's track & field and men's and women's Cross Country.
Prior to joining the Michigan staff, Phillips was a Graduate Assistant Coach at Boston College working with Men's Tennis, men's and women's swimming and diving, and men's and women's cross country (2022-23). In addition to his direct team responsibilities, he also assisted with training implementation for men's and women's soccer, men's and women's ice hockey and women's lacrosse.
Prior to becoming a Graduate Assistant, he completed his professional internship with Oklahoma State Football's Strength and Conditioning Department.
Phillips is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the National Strength & Conditioning Association and by USA Weightlifting as a Level 1 Weightlifting Coach. Phillips is also a member of the African American Performance Coaches Association.
Originally from McLoud, Okla., Phillips currently resides in Ann Arbor, Mich..
