Tyler McLaurin is in his second year assisting the Michigan linebackers in 2026, and his second year coaching overall.
McLaurin was a three-year letter winner with the Wolverines (2021, 2022, 2024) and appeared in 18 games in his career as a linebacker and special teams contributor. McLaurin was part of U-M's 2023 National Championship-winning roster and was a member of three Big Ten Championship-winning teams (2021, 2022, 2023) in total. He was named Defensive Scout Team Player of the Year in 2021.
McLaurin joined the U-M staff as a graduate assistant working with the defense for the 2025 season, working with Pernell McPhee under coordinator Wink Martindale. The unit finished with a final national ranking of 23rd overall, with multiple players receiving all-league honors. McLaurin worked with linebacker Derrick Moore (first-team All-Big Ten), a second-round pick by the Detroit Lions, and Jaishawn Barham (honorable mention All-Big Ten), a third-round pick by the Dallas Cowboys. Moore led the Big Ten in sacks during conference play with 10.
