Katlyn Smith joined the University of Michigan Olympic Sports Strength and Conditioning team as a Graduate Assistant in August 2011 and currently serves as a Head Strength and Conditioning Coach. She is responsible for program design and implementation for field hockey, men's tennis and women's soccer. She also formerly served as the Strength and Conditioning Coach for men's & women's track & field and cross country (2021-2024), and men's & women's swimming & diving team (2012-2018).
During her time at Michigan, her assigned teams have won a combined 17 B1G Championships and one NCAA Championship (Men's Swimming & Diving, 2013). Katlyn has also designed and implemented training programs for members of the professional swim group, Club Wolverine Elite, in preparation for the 2012, 2016 and 2021 Olympic Games. As an active member within the profession, Katlyn currently serves as a member of the NSCA Foundation Coaching Advancement Grants and Assistantship Board, has presented at multiple conferences and developed online educational content, and has contributed to numerous podcasts.
Prior to joining the Michigan staff, Katlyn worked as an undergraduate assistant with Syracuse University Strength and Conditioning (Olympic Sports), assisting with the Women's Tennis, Lacrosse, Soccer and Ice Hockey teams. She also completed internships with Athletes' Performance (now EXOS) and Etcheberry Sports Performance, working with professional athletes from the NHL, NFL, MLB, PGA Tour, and EPL. While at Syracuse, she was a member of the women's varsity tennis and rowing teams.
