Pam St. John began her tenure as the head coach of the University of Michigan cheer team in the 1978-79 season.Â
She has guided the Maize and Blue to the pinnacle of the collegiate ranks with the program's recent back - to back - to back  NCA Championships in both the Division 1A Game Day and the Division 1A Coed Intermediate Divisions. U-M has claimed the national championships in seven of the past nine years, beginning in 2013 through 2022. Throughout St. John's tenure, U-M's cheer team has annually achieved Top 3 national rankings, and is perennially the top-performing team at nationals in the Big Ten Conference.
St. John has been on the National Cheerleaders Association Collegiate Advisory Board and has served as an AACCA Trainer and Safety Certifier. She was involved in helping to start MHSAA Girls Competitive Cheer in the State of Michigan.
St. John was among the first group of women to cheer at the University of Michigan in 1974. She received her B.S. in dental hygiene from Michigan in 1976. She lives in Ann Arbor and has four children, Sarah, Steven, Carter & Drake.
