Polina Shchennikova medically retired from gymnastics in September, 2018 and joining the Michigan women's gymnastics coaching staff as a student assistant coach.

She helped lead the Wolverines to the 2019 Big Ten Championship and Big Ten regular season titles in 2019 and 2020.

Shchennikova was a member of back-to-back Big Ten Championship teams in 2017 and 2018. She won two event titles in her career and scored 9.900 or better on four collegiate routines. She earned Academic All-Big Ten honors as a sophomore and is studying sport management.
