Calvin O'Neal was named an All-American in 1976 after earning a pair of All-Big Ten first-team honors in 1975 and 1976. He captained Michigan's 1976 Big Ten Championship team, one of three championship teams he played for. U-M finished in the top 10 of the final national polls in each of his four seasons, highlighted by a No. 3 ranking in 1974. O'Neal started 27 games at linebacker and was one of the top tacklers in school history with 378 tackles to go with 16 pass breakups, four forced fumbles and three interceptions. He tallied 16 games with double-digit tackles and set the Michigan single-game record with 24 tackles against Purdue in 1976. He was drafted in the sixth round of the 1977 NFL Draft by the Baltimore Colts.
