Francis Heydt

Francis Heydt was a dominant figure on Michigan's championship pre-World War II swimming squads. Competing two seasons under Wolverine Coach Matt Mann, Heydt won individual and relay team Big Ten and NCAA titles in 1940 and 1941. A backstroke specialist, he took first in two conference and one national 150-yard races. He also swam the backstroke leg on two NCAA and one Big Ten championship 300-yard medley relay teams. During Heydt's years, his teams captured swimming championships in both the Big Ten Conference and the NCAA in 1940 and 1941.
