John W. Tidwell was an explosive scorer with the Wolverine men's basketball team (1958-61), totaling 1,386 points over his three seasons. A guard, Tidwell burst onto the Michigan basketball scene as a sophomore, averaging 17.6 points and 6.6 rebounds. In both his last two seasons, Tidwell led the Wolverines in scoring, tallying 520 points as a junior and 441 as a senior. Tidwell was elected captain and earned the Bill Buntin Most Valuable Player award in the 1961 season. Â Tidwell's career scoring average of 20.1 placed him among the all-time Wolverine greats.
