Supronowicz, Mack

Mack Supronowicz
- Induction:
- 1990
Due to relaxed eligibility rules because of the recently ended World War, Schenectady, New York, native Mack Suprunowicz was able to play varsity basketball as a freshman. Though young, Suprunowicz left little doubt remaining about his ability by leading the team in scoring his first season. The six-foot, 180-pound player played in all 20 of the team's games his first year, averaging 11.4 points per game and leading the team to its best Big Ten finish in 10 years. Despite being hampered by injury his sophomore year, Mack again led the Wolverines in scoring average and finished seventh in the conference race in scoring. With his help, Michigan earned its first conference championship in 19 years and its first-ever bid to the NCAA Tournament. During his junior season, Suprunowicz finished third in the conference in scoring as he poured in 247 points. Included in this total was a then single-game record of 28 points Mack scored against Purdue. Mack led the team in scoring average for an unprecedented fourth time in 1949-50, averaging 12.6 points per game over Michigan's 22-game campaign. Having already influenced Michigan basketball history for years to come, the forward etched his name in the record books by becoming Michigan's first-ever 1,000-point scorer. In the season's final contest, Mack posted 19 points against Purdue to deliver a 70-60 win and finish his career with 1,006 career points.
