Farah Advances to Qualifier at ITA All-American Championships

AUSTIN, Texas -- Nine members of the University of Michigan men's tennis team began pre-qualifying action at the All-American Championships, sponsored by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. The 255-player tournament was held at the Penick-Allison Tennis Center on the campus of the University of Texas at Austin.
Senior William Farah (Flint, Mich./Powers Catholic HS) advanced to the qualifying portion of the draw after posting a 4-0 record in the pre-qualifier. Farah will continue competition in the 64-player qualifying field with hopes of advancing to the main draw.
Matt Wright (Wichita, Kan./Collegiate School) began his junior year impressively, reaching the quarterfinal portion of the pre-qualifying tournament before losing in the deciding match for advancement to the qualifier. Wright finished with a 4-1 record.
The Wolverines' other top singles performance came from freshman Henry Beam (Kalamazoo, Mich./Loy Norrix HS), who finished pre-qualifying with a 2-1 record.
In doubles, Farah teamed with junior Brad McFarlane (Kingston, Ontario/Bayridge Secondary HS) to reach the third round before finishing with a 2-1 record. Wright combined with freshman Danny McCain (Largo, Fla./The Canterbury School) and advanced to the third round before falling to UCLA's Brandon Kramer and Noah Newman.
Michigan's next fall tournament will be Nov. 6-9 at the Rolex Region IV Championships at Michigan State University. The tournament will determine the top singles and doubles players in the region.
