AUSTIN, Texas -- University of Michigan senior men's tennis player William Farah (Flint, Mich./Powers Catholic HS) opened his 1998-99 season by advancing to the qualifying portion of the 1998 All-American Championships, sponsored by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. The 64-player draw is being held at the Penick-Allison Tennis Center on the campus of the University of Texas at Austin.
Farah was one of 13 players to advance to the qualifying draw by winning his segment of the pre-qualifier. He won his opening match of the qualifier, defeating Texas A&M's Juan Aranburo in straight sets (6-2, 6-2). Farah's impressive run came to end, though, as he lost to Northwestern's Doug Bohaboy in a hard-fought, three-set match. He won the first set in a tie-breaker, 7-6(4), but dropped the final two sets, 6-3 and 6-4. Farah ended the tournament with a 5-1 record.
