Men's Tennis Excels at Kentucky Fall Invitational

LEXINGTON, Ky. -- The University of Michigan men's tennis team put together an excellent weekend at the Kentucky Fall Invitational with four individuals reaching the finals of their respective flights. Overall, the Wolverines won 20 of their 27 singles matches and posted a 6-5 record in doubles.
Freshman Ben Cox (Spring Lake, Mich./Spring Lake HS) won his first collegiate tournament singles title, defeating junior teammate Brad McFarlane (Kingston, Ontario/Bayridge Secondary HS) in the fourth singles flight. Cox posted a 4-0 record and was the team's only champion at the tournament.
Besides McFarlane, who finished as the runner-up at the fourth singles slot, Michigan had two other players placed second. Junior John Long (Ann Arbor, Mich./Huron HS) and freshman Henry Beam (Kalamazoo, Mich./Loy Norrix HS) were runner-ups at the second and third singles flights, respectively.
All seven players posted at least a .500 record or better. Junior Jake Raiton (Portland, Ore./Wilson HS) placed fifth in the fifth singles flight with a 3-1 record. Freshmen Danny McCain (Largo, Fla./The Canterbury School) compiled a 2-2 record at the first flight while sophomore Ron Nano (Great Neck, N.Y./South HS) finshed ninth with a 3-1 mark at the sixth flight.
In doubles, McFarlane and Cox led the way with a 2-1 record and a third place finish at the second flight. The team of Raiton and Long placed fifth at the first flight (2-2 record) while Nano and Beam posted a 2-2 mark at same flight.
