ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan freshman defenseman Jeff Jillson (North Smithville, R.I.) has been invited to the 1999 U.S. National Junior ice hockey team training camp, which will be held Dec. 14-17 at the Ann Arbor Ice Cube.
Following the camp, a roster of 22 players will be chosen to represent the United States on the 1999 U.S. National Junior Team, which competes in the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) World Junior Championship Dec. 26-Jan. 5 in Winnipeg and five other cities in Manitoba, Canada. Jillson is one of eight players competing for seven defensive spots on the roster.

"This will be good for young Jillson," said Michigan head coach Red Berenson. "He didn't have a good camp this summer (with the national program), but his progress in the last few weeks has been very good, and now they see him as a legitimate candidate for the U.S. team."
"I am thrilled," said Jillson. "It is going to be a great experience. I think I have improved a lot in the past few weeks, and now things are working out pretty well."
The U.S. Team will have two pre-tournament games against Sweden at the Ann Arbor Ice Cube on Dec. 21 and Dec. 23 at 7:30 p.m. each night.
