ANN ARBOR, MICH. -- The 11th-ranked Michigan field hockey team played its best game of the season Friday (Sept. 11) as the Wolverines beat cross-state rival Central Michigan 11-0 at Ocker Field. The Maize and Blue scored six goals in the first half, enabling every player on the roster to play in the second half.
Seven different players scored goals and 12 Wolverines figured in the scoring. Leading the way for Michigan was sophomore forward Tamra Geryk (Hatfield, Mass./Williston Northampton HS), who notched her first career hat trick with three second-half goals, her first of the season. Senior Amy Philbrook (Marblehead, Mass./Marblehead HS) opened the flood gates less than 10 minutes into the first half with her fourth and fifth goals of the season. Freshman forward Jessie Veith (Oak Park, Ill./Oak Park-River Forest HS) continued a hot streak as she scored twice, giving her three goals in the last two games.
Offense was not the only story of the game for the Wolverines. Junior goalkeeper Kati Oakes (Lititz, Pa./Warwick HS) combined with freshman Michelle Tasch (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer HS) for Michigan's third shutout of the season. Largely responsible for the shutout was the defensive effort, led by All-America candidate Loveita Wilkinson (New Castle, Del./William Penn HS), as the Chippewas managed just four shots on goal for the game.

Last year's season high was seven against Southwest Missouri State. With 13 points in five games so far this year, Amy Philbrook has already surpassed her 1997 season total of nine.
