GENEVA, N.Y. -- University of Michigan graduate students Abby Tamer and Claire Taylor were named to the 2025 National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division I All-West Region teams, earning first- and second-team recognition, respectively, the organization announced Wednesday (Dec. 3).
The NFHCA Division I All-Region team announcement is the first in a list of postseason awards to come from the NFHCA over the next several weeks. The Regional Players of the Year will be revealed on Dec. 11, while the NFHCA All-America teams will be announced on Dec. 16.
Tamer, a 2023 NFHCA All-America first team and three-time all-region honoree, led the Wolverines in scoring for the second straight season with eight goals, three assists and 19 points. Among her goals, she boasted three late game-winners this season, all scored within the final three minutes of the fourth quarter -- including two in the final 30 seconds against Wake Forest and Stanford. She was a unanimous selection to the All-Big Ten first team for the second year in a row and named to the Big Ten All-Tournament Team. Tamer appeared in 76 career games over her four seasons with 65 starts, boasting 33 career goals, 26 assists and 92 points.
Taylor, also an All-Big Ten first-team honoree this season, has been a fixture of the Wolverine defense over the last four seasons and has served as U-M's center back this year, contributing to a defensive unit that allowed just 1.5 goals, 9.4 shots and 4.5 corners per game this season. She also posted six points off a goal and four assists as one of U-M's primary stick stoppers on the Wolverines' attack corner unit, including four points at the Big Ten Tournament and was named to the Big Ten All-Tournament Team. Taylor appeared in 74 career games with 67 starts and registered two career goals and 13 assists.
Michigan posted its 16th straight winning season under the leadership of first-year head coach Kristi Gannon Fisher, earning a 10-7 record while tying for fourth in the Big Ten standings and reaching the conference tournament semifinals.
