MADISON, WIS. -- The University of Michigan women's soccer team opened Big Ten Conference play with a 1-0 double-overtime loss at Wisconsin on Friday night. The Wolverines fall to 5-1-0 overall, 0-1-0 in the Big Ten.

Wisconsin's Mara Miller beat Michigan keeper Carissa Stewart (Topsham, Maine/Mt. Ararat HS) at the 115:39 mark to hand the Wolverines their first loss of the season. The Badgers outshot Michigan 13-10 in the match.

Michigan continues Big Ten action Sunday (Sept. 20) at Northwestern at 1 p.m. CDT.

Michigan is ranked #10 by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America and #13 in by Soccer America.

The Wolverines are now 1-4 in Big Ten openers in the program's five-year history. The only win came in 1997, against Indiana.

Michigan is now 1-5-1 all-time against Wisconsin.

The 1-0 loss marks the first time the Wolverines have been shut out since Oct. 31, 1997, when U-M dropped a 5-0 decision at Notre Dame (10 matches in between shutouts).
