Boston College Tops Michigan Field Hockey 2-1

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. -- The eighth-ranked Michigan field hockey team fell to No. 7 Boston College 2-1 despite another solid defensive effort. The loss drops the Wolverines' record to 6-2, with both losses coming to teams ranked in the top 10 (No. 6 Maryland).

Michigan got off to the early lead once again as Loveita Wilkinson (New Castle, Del./William Penn HS) netted her third goal of the season and second in as many games just 12 minutes into the contest. That was all for the Wolverines, however, as the BC defense tightened and allowed just four shots the rest of the game.

Boston College got on the board 12 minutes into the second half on a goal from Katie Gentile. Two minutes later, the Eagles scored the game winner off the stick of Julianne Marrone.

The Big Ten season begins Thursday (Sept. 24) at 4 p.m. when the Wolverines host rival Michigan State at Phyllis Ocker Field.

Goalkeeper Kati Oakes (Lititz, Pa./Warwick HS) continues her solid play as she has yet to give up more than two goals in a contest.

Michigan leads the all-time series with Boston College 5-3, including a 3-2 win on Sept. 8, 1996, in the last previous meeting.
