ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Senior assistant captain Dale Rominski (Farmington Hills, Mich.) recorded his first career hat trick as the University of Michigan ice hockey team defeated Western Michigan 6-3 in front of 6,412 fans at Yost Ice Arena Saturday (Jan. 16) night. The win upped Michigan's record to 16-5-2 on the season and 13-3-1 in the CCHA. Western Michigan fell to 3-12-6, 2-11-6 in conference.

Rominski

The Wolverines jumped out to a 4-0 lead with goals by Josh Langfeld (Coon Rapids, Minn.), Mark Kosick (Victoria, B.C.) and Rominski in the first period and another Rominski goal 2:49 into the second period. The goals were Langfeld's 11th, Kosick's sixth and Rominski's seventh and eighth of the season. Langfeld added two assists for a three-point evening.

After Western Michigan scored to make it a 4-1 game, Justin Clark (Grand Rapids, Mich.) tallied a short-handed goal, his second goal of the season, 1:43 into the third period. The goal was Clark's first career short-handed goal. Goaltender Josh Blackburn (Choctaw, Okla.) earned his second career assist on the play.

The Broncos tallied power-play goals at 2:26 by Bryan Farquhar and 6:52 by Chuck Mindel before Rominski closed the scoring at 17:13 with his ninth goal of the season for the hat trick. Blackburn made 18 saves for his 16th win of the season (16-4-2).

Michigan returns to action on Thurday, Jan. 21, when the Wolverines host Bowling Green at 7:00 p.m.
