MADISON, Wis. -- Junior Matt Wright (Wichita, Kan./Wichita Collegiate HS) advanced to the third round of action at the Big Ten Singles Championships before falling to No. 1 seed and 14th-ranked nationally Tom Chicoine of Minnesota (1-6, 3-6).
Wright, the tournament's 10th seed, posted two victories in the tournament before losing to Chicoine. He defeated Purdue's Cade Lutz (6-2, 6-2) in the first round and followed that up with a second-round victory over Michigan State's Mark Jacobson (6-3, 6-3). Senior co-captain William Farah (Flint, Mich./Powers Catholic HS) and freshman Ben Cox (Spring Lake, Mich./Spring Lake HS) were eliminated from action with 1-2 records.
In competition at the No. 7 and 8 players bracket, senior co-captain Jake Raiton (Portland, Ore./Wilson HS) will play in Monday's main draw semifinals against Minnesota's Martin Kristofferson.
