ELKHART, Ind. -- The University of Michigan rowing team took the top two spots at the Head of the Elk Regatta on Sunday (Oct. 31). The team's third boat took seventh in the same race in the final event of the fall season for the Wolverines.
The first varsity eight finished first with a time of 14:05.99, defeating the second varsity eight by just under four seconds, to win the Women's Open Eight race. Both boats defeated intrastate rival Michigan State, which had boats finish third and fourth. Michigan's third varsity eight boat took seventh in the race with a time of 14:48.66.
The Wolverines also entered three novice boats in the Women's Novice Eight races. In the Division A race, Michigan finished third with a time of 15:33.07 to Michigan State and Louisville, which won the race in 15:21.54. In the Division B race, Michigan's boats finished in ninth and 10th with times of 17:59.35 and 18:36.60, respectively. Notre Dame won that race with a time of 16:08.59.
The Head of the Elk concludes Michigan's fall season. The Wolverines return to action in the spring at the Governor's Cup in Tampa, Fla., on Feb. 27.
