MILWAUKEE, Wis. -- The University of Michigan women's tennis team suffered its fourth consecutive loss Sunday afternoon, a 7-2 defeat against No. 44 Marquette at the Helfaer Tennis Stadium. The loss dropped Michigan to 3-7 on the season, while Marquette improved to 10-5 overall.
The Wolverines fell behind 5-1 as Marquette won the first five singles matches. Michigan's lone singles victory came from sophomore Alison Sinclair (Lakeland, Fla./George Jenkins HS), who blanked Christine DiMasi in straight sets (6-0, 6-0). Sinclair won both matches this weekend and claimed two of the team's three overall singles victories.
With the match out-of-right reach, Marquette won two of the three doubles matches to claim the 7-2 victory. Michigan's only win came as Sinclair and sophomore Szandra Fuzesi (Budapest, Hungary/Balassi Balint Gimnazium) defeated DiMasi and Julia Sapozhnikova by an 8-5 score at the No. 3 doubles spot.
Michigan travels to No. 14 Notre Dame Wednesday, March 24 (4 p.m. CST) before returning to the Varsity Tennis Center for a pair of Big Ten dual matches next weekend. The Wolverines host No. 53 Iowa (Saturday, March 27, at 11 a.m.) and No. 34 Wisconsin (Sunday, March 28, at 11 a.m.).
