ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's tennis team dropped a 5-2 match to Wisconsin Sunday afternoon (March 28) at the Varsity Tennis Center. The Wolverines have a 4-9 overall record and are 3-2 in Big Ten play, while Wisconsin improved to 5-9 overall and 3-1 in conference action.
The Badgers jumped out to a 1-0 advantage in the match as they claimed the doubles point with victories at the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles spot. Michigan kept Wisconsin from winning all three doubles matches as senior Jennifer Boylan (Staten Island, N.Y./Staten Island Academy) and freshman Jen Vaughn (Jefferson City, Mo./Lawrence HS) defeated Andrea Nathan and Dena Baritot (9-7) at the No. 2 slot.
Trailing 1-0 heading into singles, the Wolverines could only manage two singles wins and lost the match 5-2 to the Badgers. Michigan had its chances to escape with victory as three of its four singles losses came in a third set. Junior Brooke Hart (Cincinnati, Ohio/Anderson HS) and sophomores Szandra Fuzesi (Budapest, Hungary/Balassi Balint Gimnazium) and Alison Sinclair (Largo, Fla./George Jenkins HS) lost at the No. 2, No. 3 and No. 4 spots, respectively.
Junior co-captain Danielle Lund (Leominster, Mass/Leominster HS) posted one of the team's two singles wins as she defeated No. 84 Andrea Nathan at the No. 1 spot (7-5, 7-6).
