COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The University of Michigan men's golf squad turned in one of its best performances of the year with a fifth-place showing at the Robert Kepler Intercollegiate, hosted by Ohio State University on Saturday and Sunday (April 17-18). With the showing, the Wolverines finished ahead of six Big Ten Conference foes (Iowa, Purdue, Indiana, Penn State, Ohio State, Michigan State).
Leading the way for the Maize and Blue were Michael Harris (Troy, Mich./Troy HS) and Scott Hayes (Rochester Hills, Mich./Rochester HS), who finished in a tie for 18th place with a 54-hole total of 228. It was his fifth top-20 finish for Harris this season, while Hayes posted the top finish of his college career and cracked the top 20 for the second time.
Other Wolverines competing included Andy Matthews (Ada, Mich./Grand Rapids Forest Hills Central HS), Andrew Chapman (Grand Blanc, Mich./Grand Blanc HS) and Brian Seipke (Suttons Bay, Mich./Traverse City HS).
Northwestern won both the individual and team titles as Luke Donald finished five strokes ahead of the competition with a 54-hole total of 216 and the Wildcats finished with a total of 899.
The Wolverines are off next week as final exams approach but will return to action May 1-2 at the Spartan Invitational in East Lansing, Mich.
