STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -- In its first invitational of the 1999 season, the Michigan women's cross country team took the Spiked Shoe Invitational title with 30 points Saturday morning (Sept. 18) at the Penn State Blue and White Golf Courses. All five of the Wolverines' scoring places finished in the top 11 of the race, which featured 18 schools on the same course that will host the 1999 Big Ten Conference Championships. Michigan's closest threat was Bucknell, with 67 points.
Leading the women for the second meet in a row was Lisa Ouellet (Sudbury, Ontario/Lasalle SS), who crossed the finish line at 17:53.81 for the overall second-place finish. Closely following were Elizabeth Kampfe (Decatur, Ill./MacArthur HS) at 18:12.19 and Katy Radkewich (Hudson, Ohio/Beaumont HS) at 18:19.67 for fourth and fifth, respectively. Erin White (Battle Creek, Mich/Central HS), eighth at 18:22.54, and Katie Ryan (Rochester Hills, Mich./Adams HS), 11th at 18:26.99, rounded out the top five scoring places.
The women will continue their season next Saturday (Sept. 25) at the Sam Bell Invitational in Bloomington, Ind., at 11:15 a.m.
