Michigan (17-6-0 12-4-0 CCHA) jumped out to an early lead in the first period on Comrie's 13th goal of the season. Jeff Jillson (North Smithfield, R.I.) hit Comrie with a pass as he was skating through the neutral zone. Comrie was able to split two Miami defenders and beat David Burleigh above his glove hand. Cammalleri notched his first goal of the contest, on a wraparound from behind the net, with less than a minute remaining in the period to give the Wolverines a 2-0 lead heading into the first intermission.
Andy Hilbert (Howell, Mich.) gave the Wolverines a 3-0 lead just under four minutes into the second period. On the play, Comrie picked up the puck in the defensive zone and skated the length of the ice before dropping a pass in the right circle to Hilbert, who wristed a shot past Burleigh.
The RedHawks (9-8-2 6-5-2 CCHA) scored two power-play goals in just over two and a half minutes to start the third period, trimming the Wolverine lead to 3-2. But Mark Kosick (Victoria, B.C.) gave the Wolverines a two-goal cushion with 13 minutes left in the third period. Josh Langfeld (Coon Rapids, Minn.) fired a cross-ice pass to Scott Matzka (Port Huron, Mich.), who raced past the RedHawk defense. Matzka was stopped twice by Burleigh, but Kosick was able to pound the lose puck into the net. Three minutes later, Cammalleri scored a short-handed goal, his second of the game, to close out the scoring.
Josh Blackburn (Choctaw, Okla.) picked up his fourth win of the season, making 37 saves on the night. Burleigh made 25 stops for the RedHawks.
Michigan and Miami will close out the season series Saturday night (Jan. 15) at Yost Ice Arena starting at 7:05 p.m.

N O T E S
Freshman defenseman Mike Roemensky (White Lake, Mich.) made his first game appearance in a Michigan uniform. Roemensky joined the squad at the beginning of the winter semester.
Miami's goal 22 seconds into the third period snapped Michigan's and Josh Blackburn's five-period shutout streak. Dating back to the final of the Great Lakes Invitational against Michigan State, the Wolverines had held their opponents scoreless for 109:25.
This marked 120th consecutive time that the Wolverines won or tied a game that they led after two periods of play. The streak dates back to Feb. 11, 1995, when Michigan led the University of Illinois-Chicago 4-3 after two periods before falling 5-4 in overtime.
Coach Red Berenson's next win will be his 412th and move him into a tie for 15th with Charles Holt (Colby, New Hampshire) on the all-time wins list.
Q U O T E S
Head Coach Red Berenson
On goalie Josh Blackburn ... "Your goalie shouldn't have to be a factor in a game at home, but he obviously was a factor in the game tonight. He played excellent. He was in position, made great glove saves, rebound control, good angles -- all the things the goalie has to do well. They didn't score on him until they got a deflection."
On freshman Mike Roemensky ... "I really like young Mike Roemensky for his first Division I game, and to come in at a time like this and be able to step in at this level of intensity. I like him with the puck, and I liked him without the puck. He didn't get beat, he always had his man, and he made some smart, key defensive plays. I like him."
On the team's play ... "I don't like the way we played for a lot of the game. We had about half our guys playing on the offensive side of the puck and half on the defensive side. We have to all be on the same side of the puck. I think the best part of the game was right after they scored their two goals in the third period. I thought our team tightened up and played good hockey for about eight or nine minutes at that point. We started to play our game."
Freshman Forward Mike Cammalleri
On his short-handed goal ... "Any time you get a go-ahead goal like that, they call it a security goal. It lets the team play more defensively because you've got a little cushion. You can play a little safer, and you don't have to take as many risks. Especially on a short-handed goal, it really gets the team going, and gets the crowd into it."
On the team's power play ... "It's a feeling like it's going to happen soon, but frustration more than anything. We know our power play is loaded with incredible talent. We work hard, and it's going to come through. When it comes through, we're going to score a lot of goals off of it."
On the attitude of the team ... "When a team's winning, hockey is a lot of fun. We've had a couple of big wins, and everyone's having a great time with each other, whether it be on the ice or off the ice. I've got to really attribute that to our upperclassmen and our captain (Sean Peach)."
Freshman Defenseman Mike Roemensky
On playing in his first collegiate game ... "It was amazing. I didn't expect the fans to be so loud. It's a real turnaround from juniors, and it was a great experience. I was a little nervous, as anybody would be, but as soon as I heard that band playing, my adrenaline started pumping, got my legs going, and I was ready to play."
On fitting in on the team ... "I feel that I'm fitting in really well, and the guys have been great to me. The upperclassmen have shown leadership and kept us together. I played with Mark Mink, John Shouneyia and J.J. Swistak back in juniors. We were really close back then, and it was really great for me to be able to come up and know some guys on the team right away and help me fit in."
Sophomore Goaltender Josh Blackburn
On the team's play ... "I think overall we played a pretty good game tonight. We had a couple of lapses and that's where the shots came. I think we responded to that pretty well; we picked it back up, and we'd start playing better defense."
On returning to Yost ... "It was a blast. I was getting trickles down my spine the whole game. Make a save and hearing the crowd and the band. It was great, I love playing here. I really missed it."
