DAYTON, Ohio -- The University of Michigan men's soccer team had its final non-conference match of the regular season Friday (Oct. 27) and lost the outcome 3-1 to Dayton. The Wolverines had a strong defensive first half but allowed three goals in the second period to the Flyers.

Michigan's high-pressure defense in the first half kept the game scoreless at halftime, even though the Wolverines had been outshot 11-3 at that point. Albert Geldres (St. Clair, Mich./Detroit Country Day Prep) had two saves in goal by the half, and the Maize and Blue successfully defended five corner kicks by Dayton (14-3) in the period.

The physical defense by Michigan led to three yellow cards in the second half (four for the game) and five more fouls (12 total). One of those fouls came within the box, leading to the Flyers' first goal, off a penalty kick at the 54:00 mark. Nearly nine minutes later (62:56), Sunday Isename made it a 2-0 lead off a sharp crossing pass kicked in the goal.

After an own goal by Michigan made it 3-0, senior Ryan Yoder (Whitehouse, Ohio/St. John's Jesuit HS) prevented a shutout with only 45 second remaining in the contest, when he took the rebound from Kevin Robinson's (Caro, Mich./Faith Baptist HS) shot off the post and scored a goal of his own.

The Wolverines (5-8, 0-4 Big Ten) return to Big Ten Conference play on Sunday (Oct. 29) as they face Northwestern at 1 p.m. CST in Evanston, Ill.
